This Sub-Programme is structured around seven specific objectives and research areas:
  • Reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint
  • Low-cost, low-carbon electricity supply
  • Alternative fuels and mobile energy sources
  • A single, smart European electricity grid
  • New knowledge and technologies
  • Robust decision making and public engagement
  • Market uptake of energy and ICT innovation.

Description of call
"Energy Efficiency 2016 - 2017"
A high level of energy efficiency is beneficial for security of supply, sustainability, affordability for households and industry and competitiveness of the EU economy.
The Energy Efficiency area  has been designed for 2016/2017 with a stronger focus on consumer-related issues.
The call includes in total the following topics:
  • Waste heat recovery from urban facilities and re-use to increase energy efficiency of district or individual heating and cooling systems
  • Improving the performance of inefficient district heating networks
  • Standardised installation packages integrating renewable and energy efficiency solutions for heating, cooling and/or hot water preparation
  • New heating and cooling solutions using low grade sources of thermal energy
  • Models and tools for heating and cooling mapping and planning
  • Engaging private consumers towards sustainable energy
  • Behavioural change toward energy efficiency through ICT
  • Socio-economic research on consumer's behaviour related to energy efficiency
  • Engaging and activating public authorities
  • Supporting accelerated and cost-effective deep renovation of buildings through Public Private Partnership (EeB PPP)
  • Overcoming market barriers and promoting deep renovation of buildings
  • Integration of Demand Response in Energy Management Systems while ensuring interoperability through Public Private Partnership (EeB PPP)
  • Cost reduction of new Nearly Zero-Energy buildings
  • Construction skills
  • Increasing capacities for actual implementation of energy efficiency measures in industry and services
  • Effective implementation of EU product efficiency legislation
  • Valorisation of waste heat in industrial systems (SPIRE PPP)
  • Energy efficiency of industrial parks through energy cooperation and mutualised energy services
  • Public Procurement of Innovative Solutions for energy efficiency
  • Bringing to market more energy efficient and integrated data centres
  • ERA-NET Cofund actions supporting Joint Actions towards increasing energy efficiency in industry and services
  • Project Development Assistance
  • Innovative financing schemes
  • Making the energy efficiency market investible
  • Development and roll-out of innovative energy efficiency services

The general rule is that projects should include between one and three partenrs, each of which established in a differnet Memebre state country or Horizon202 Associated country. There are exceptions as per a topic
