Description of programme
The European Union's Erasmus+ programme is a funding scheme to support activities in the fields of Education, Training, Youth and Sport. The Programme is made up of three so-called "Key Actions" and two additional actions. They are managed partly at the national level by National Agencies and partly at the European level by the EACEA. Erasmus+ provides grants for activities in the fields of education, training, youth and sport. It offers opportunities for both individuals and organisations.

Description of programme
"Key Action 1 - Learning mobility of individuals"

Key Action 1 supports mobility in the education, training and youth sectors and aims to bring long lasting benefits to the participants and the organisations involved. The EACEA manages the selection of projects under:

  • Large Scale European Voluntary Service Events
  • Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (including the new partnership with Japan)
The other actions of the KA1 are managed at decentralised level by the National Agencies.

"Mobility for students and personnel of higher education institutes"

Eligible activities:

Mobility projects in higher education must include one or more of the following activities :

  •      Student mobility for learning purposes
  •      Student mobility for internship purposes
  •      Personnel mobility for teaching purposes
  •      Personnel mobility fpr further- education and training purposes

Student Mobility:

  •      Internship at a partner university abroad
  •      Internship at a company or another suitable job abroad

Personal mobility:

  •      Mobility for educational purposes
  •      Mobility for education- and training opportunities

Applicant details
  • Individual higher education institution: higher education institutions in a Programme Country which hold an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE).
  • National Mobility Consortium: coordinating organizations which are established in a program country to coordinate a consortium and have a Certificate for Mobility consortia in higher education. Organizations which do not have a valid Certificate of Mobility may apply for it on behalf of a mobility consortium,  simultaneously with the submission of an application for financial support for a mobility project. All participating higher education institutions from program countries must have a valid Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE). Mobility projects of these organizations can only be funded, if they have received the certificate requested.
  • Students and university personnel can not apply for the funding on their own; the selection criteria for participating in the mobility activities are determined by the higher education institution in which the students study or in which the personnel is employed.

Function of participating organizations in the project:

  •     Applicant organization from a Programme Country: applying the relevant mobility project and signing the grant agreement undVerwaltung and Berichtlegung; the application may be submitted by the coordinator of a consortium, who heads a consortium mobility of partner organizations of the country concerned for the implementation of mobility projects, the various activities to promote student and staff mobility to organize.
  •     Sending organization: responsible for the selection of students and personnel and their sending abroad. Among other things, it is responsible for the authorization of payments (for organizations from a Programme Country), for the preparation and supervision as well as for the recognition of the studies undergone in the mobility period.
  •     Receiving organization: Responsible for the reception of students and personnel from abroad and for supply of study-, internship- or training programs; the receiving organizations can also benefit form the teaching activities.
  •     Intermediary organization: an organization active in the labor market or in the fields of education, vocational education and youth in a program country . You can be a partner of a national mobility consortium, but CANNOT be a sending organization. Your job may be to simplify the administrative procedures performed by the seconding vocational organizations,  to better coordinate the profiles of trainees or students and the needs of the businesses as providers of internships and to prepare the participants together.


Eligible partnership:

  •     at least two organizations from different program countries (at least one sending and at least one receiving organization) to be involved.
  •     at least one participant from a Programme Country and one another in an eligible Partner Country

Financial details

Eligible costs for all mobility activities:

  • Organizational support: costs related directly to the implementation of mobility activities (excluding accommodation and traveling expenses of participants): Cost per unit, up to 100. mobility: 350 € / participant and from the 101st mobility: 200 € for each additional participant
  • Assistance in case of special needs: Additional costs directly related to expenses for participants with disabilities (except for travel and subsistence costs of accompaning persons): Actual costs, 100% of eligible costs, which have been approved by the National Agency

Eligible costs for financial assistance for mobility of students:
Students may receive EU funding as a contribution to the subsistence and travel expenses during their studies or internship abroad. The amounts in question shall be determined by the national agencies, in coordination with national authorities and / or higher education institutions according to the described in the following objective and transparent criteria. The exact amounts are published on the websites of the national agencies and higher education institutions.

Criterion 1: origin of students and destination
Group 1 - program countries with higher living costs: Denmark, Ireland, France, Italy, Austria, Finland, Sweden, United Kingdom, Liechtenstein, Norway
Group 2 - program countries with middle cost of living: Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Spain, Croatia, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Iceland, Turkey
Group 3 - program countries with lower cost of living: Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, FYROM


Higher range EU financial assistance: 250 - 500 € per month

  • for Group 2 countries with destination to Group 1 countries
  • for Group 3 countries with destination to Groups 1 and 2 countries


Middle range EU financial assistance: 200 - 450 € per month

  • for Group 1 countries with destination to  Group 1 countries
  • for  Group 2 countries with destination to  Group 2 countries
  • for  Group 3 countries with destination to  Group 3 countries


Lower rage EU financial assistance: 150 - 400 € per month

  • for Group 1 countries with destination to Groups 2 and 3 countries
  • for Group 2 countries with destination to Group 3 countries

Eligible costs for personnel mobility:

Travel expenses shall be reimbursed as a staggered distance packages. Distances can be calculated via the online distance calculator from the European Commission. Contribution to the costs incurred by the participants for travel from their place of origin to the place of the venue and return travel.

  • 500-1999 km € 275 / person
  • 2000 to 2999 km € 360 / person
  • 3000-3999 km € 530 / person
  • 4000-7999 km € 820 / person
  • 8000 km from € 1,100 / person


Individual support costs that are directly related to the stay of participants during the activity:

  • Up to the 14th day of teh activity: 50-160 € per day per participant
  • Between the 15th and 60th day of the activity: 70% of 50-160 € per day per participant
