"Creative Europe"

Creative Europe's stated aims are to help the cultural and creative sectors seize the opportunities of the digital age and globalisation, enable the sectors to reach their economic potential, contributing to sustainable growth, jobs, and social cohesion, and to give Europe's culture and media sectors access to new international opportunities, markets, and audiences.
This will, amongst others, involve funding for:

  • artists and cultural professionals
  • cinemas
  • films
  • book translations

Description of programme
"Media"

The audiovisual sector is transforming with the rise of digital technology. This creates additional issues, such as the protection of intellectual property, securing access to financing in a relatively new and changing sector, and ensuring the proper distribution of works.

The Media sub-programme, which supports the audiovisual and multimedia sector, provides opportunities for:

  • Initiatives that aim to promote the distribution of works and the access to markets
  • Initiatives for the development of projects or a set of projects (slate funding)
  • Support for the production of television programmes or video games
  • Activities to increase interest in and improve access to audiovisual works
  • Activities that promote interests in films, such as cinema networks or film festivals
  • Measures that facilitate international co-production and strengthen the circulation and distribution of works
  • Activities to build the skills and capacities of audiovisual sector professionals

Description of call
"Support for Access to Markets"

Within the field of reinforcing the audiovisual sector's capacity, some of the priorities of the MEDIA Sub-programme are the following:

  • increase the capacity of audiovisual operators to develop European audiovisual works with a potential to circulate in the Union and beyond and to facilitate European and international co-production, including with television broadcasters;
  • encourage business to business exchanges by facilitating access to markets and innovative business tools enabling audiovisual operators to increase the visibility of their projects on Union and international markets.

The MEDIA Sub-programme shall provide support for:

  • facilitating European and international co-productions
  • facilitating access to professional audiovisual trade events and markets and the use of online business tools inside and outside the Union;
  • facilitating circulation of European films worldwide and of international films in Europe on all platforms,.

Applicant details

Applicants must be entities (private companies, non-profit organisations, associations, charities, foundations, municipalities/Town Councils, etc.), established in one of the countries participating to the MEDIA Sub-programme and owned directly or by majority participation, by nationals from such countries. Natural persons may not apply for a grant.

The maximum duration of the action is 12 months. A maximum extension of 6 additional months will be granted, if requested before the deadline specified in the grant agreement. The maximum duration in any case, will be of 18 months.

Financial details

The total budget available is estimated at 7,5 Mio. €.
Co-funding rate:
- 60% of the total eligible costs of the action in case of action taking place in countries
participating in the MEDIA sub-Programme;
- 80% of the total eligible costs of the action in case of action taking place in countries
outside the MEDIA sub-Programme.
