Description of programme
"Interreg Central Baltic"
The Interreg Central Baltic programme focuses on 4 priorities with different specific objectives:
  1. Competitive economy
    • 1.1. New Central Baltic knowledge intensive companies
    • 1.2. More entrepreneurial youth
    • 1.3. More exports by the Central Baltic companies to new markets
  2. Sustainable use of common resources
    • 2.1. Natural and cultural resources developed into sustainable tourist attractions
    • 2.2. Sustainably planned and managed marine and coastal areas
    • 2.3. Better urban planning in the Central Baltic region
    • 2.4. Reduced nutrients, hazardous substances and toxins inflows into the Baltic Sea
  3. Well-connected region
    • 3.1. Improved transport flows of people and goods
    • 3.2. Improved services of existing small ports to improve local and regional mobility and contribute to tourism development
  4. Skilled and socially inclusive region
    • 4.1. More people benefiting from stronger Central Baltic communities
    • 4.2. More aligned vocational education and training programmes in the Central Baltic region
Even though the programme priorities apply to all regions, some specific objectives refer to one of the three sub-programmes:
  1. Central Baltic sub-programme
  2. Southern Finland - Estonia sub-programme
  3. Archipelago and Islands sub-programme

Project Partner Yes
Project Partner Details Every project needs at least 2 partners from at least 2 different countries of the programme area.
Applicant details Public authorities that are not located inside of the programme area but within the national borders of a participating Member State can act as full-fledged partners if their jurisdiction covers the relevant area of the (sub)-programme.
Financial details Total budget: 122.5 million €
  • PA1: 28.8 million €
  • PA2: 37.4 million €
  • PA3: 37.4 million €
  • PA4: 11.5 millon €
Co-financing:
  • max. 85% for partners from Estonia and Latvia
  • max 75% for partners from Finland and Sweden

Subprogrammes of Interreg Central Baltic

Central Baltic sub-programme

The Central Baltic sub-programme covers all projects in the programme area if there are at least two partners from different Programme Member States, except for bilateral cooperations between partners from Finland and Estonia, since these projects are funded in the Southern-Finland - Estonia sub-programme.

Southern Finland - Estonia sub-programme

All activities in Estonia and the programme area of Finland (except Åland) will be carried out within this programme.

Archipelago and Islands sub-programme

This Archipelago and Islands sub-programme supports projects with activities benefitting the islands and archipelago parts of the sub-programme area.
