As a part of the European cohesion policy, the Interreg Programme Austria-Czech Republic aims to support sustainable cross-border cooperation and to contribute to the improvement of economic, social and territorial integration.
Call objectives
The programme comprises four priorities with subordinate specific objectives:
- Priority 1: Research and Innovation

Project Partnership
Under the programme, each project must be implemented jointly by at least one Czech and one Austrian project partner organisation. Alternatively, a project can be implemented by a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) or by a cross-border legal entity as defined in Art. 23(6) of Regulation (EU) 2021/1059.
The programme is particularly targeted at public and non-profit organisations, i.e. organisations established for non-profit purposes.
Project partner organisations can be located inside or outside the programme area - but always on the territory of Austria or the Czech Republic. The decisive factor is that their project activities have a clear impact in the programme area.
Applies to Austria: Project partner organisations must have competences in the programme area. At least one Austrian project partner organisation must have its seat / competences in the programme area. Project partner organisations based outside the programme area may be involved in projects in justified cases. Private project partner organisations are generally eligible for funding in all priorities.
Applies to the Czech Republic: Private companies are eligible project partner organisations only in Priority 1.
Each project must fulfil at least three of the four cooperation criteria (joint development, joint project implementation, joint staffing and joint financing) . Joint development/preparation and joint project implementation must always be fulfilled.

The eligible area comprises the following NUTS III regions:
- Austria: Mostviertel-Eisenwurzen, Sankt Pölten, Waldviertel, Weinviertel, Wiener Umland-Nordteil, Vienna, Innviertel, Linz-Wels, Mühlviertel, Steyr-Kirchdorf.
- Czech Republic: Jihomoravský kraj, Jihočeský kraj, Kraj Vysočina.
Only projects whose activities have a clear cross-border impact on the programme area will be supported. The project partners must be from Austria or the Czech Republic. The project partners do not have to be based within the programme area, but the impact or output in the programme area must be demonstrated in any case.
